Dr. Pete Goodman is a globally recognised wildlife ecologist and conservation strategist with over four decades of experience in protected area planning, biodiversity monitoring, and species recovery across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Holding a PhD in Ecology and an MSc in Tropical Resource Ecology, Pete has dedicated his career to advancing science-based conservation through rigorous research, strategic planning, and capacity building. Pete has served as a technical advisor and consultant to leading conservation organizations, governments, and NGOs, including WWF, African Parks, and the IUCN. His work spans the development of protected area management plans, systematic conservation planning, and wildlife monitoring systems in countries such as South Africa, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. He has led the design and implementation of species-specific recovery strategies for black and white rhinos, Persian fallow deer, and other threatened species, often in collaboration with national wildlife authorities. As a pioneer in conservation GIS and ecological modelling, Pete has developed tools for habitat suitability analysis, fire and vegetation monitoring, and community-based wildlife tracking. His expertise has informed the expansion and effectiveness of protected areas, including assessments of carrying capacity, biodiversity value, and tourism potential. Pete is a prolific contributor to scientific literature.
