Dr. Juliet King is a zoologist with over 20 years of experience working with indigenous communities in Kenya to advance conservation and sustainable natural resource management.
She has been instrumental in establishing and supporting community conservancies through the Northern Rangelands Trust and has authored national guidelines for conservancy establishment for the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association.
Juliet has also developed innovative, community-managed ecological monitoring tools for both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Her work centres on enhancing community-based natural resource management by empowering local communities to effectively govern and manage their land and resources. Juliet supports the merging of traditional knowledge systems with modern policies and legislation to strengthen community institutions.
A committed conservationist, Juliet has helped establish and manage community-led sanctuaries for critically endangered species such as the Black Rhino, Hirola antelope, and Rothschild’s Giraffe. She collaborates with the Kenya Wildlife Service on conservation planning for endangered species and serves as a member of the IUCN Antelope Specialist Group.
Juliet’s work is driven by her dedication to aligning conservation efforts with the needs and rights of indigenous communities, ensuring they are at the forefront of sustainable development and conservation stewardship.
