Conserve Global
A passion for developing people and investing in nature.
Based in the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area, Mike has been involved in Conservation in this 2.5 million hectare landscape since 2007 when he graduated Bsc. Ecology at the University of Cape Town, with an honours in GIS (Geographic Information System). Having worked his way up to the position of Ecologist in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve and completing his Master’s degree part time through the University of Pretoria, Onderstepoort, the threat of rhino poaching escalated and Mike embraced an opportunity to change current practice by thinking outside the box and turning to technology for assistance in conservation monitoring. As a young professional, Mike presented a wildlife data capture app at the WILD 10 conference in Salamanca, Spain 2013 which lead to the establishment of a nature tech company, Activating Africa. He also became a member of the CoalitionWILD committee and served on the committee for 4 years, with mentorship from USFWS, and engagements with other young environmental professionals. A passion for developing people lead to a 7-year career as a Landscape Director for Conservation International developing sustainable livestock and a soil organic carbon project in the Kruger-to-Canyons region. Growing the team from 6 to 30 over the 7 years, Mike then joined Conserve Global in January 2024, which has given Mike the opportunity to apply all the learnings from his preceding career in order to help find investment for Indigenous land users so that they in turn, invest in nature.
