The Futi Corridor is part of a broader protected area complex within the Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area, which is recognised as a globally significant area for biodiversity, lying in the Maputaland Centre of Endemism. Stretching from the Maputo National Park in the north to the border with South Africa, the Futi Corridor protects the perennial Futi River as an important habitat for elephants and other wildlife species and has potential to act as a corridor connecting Maputo National Park with Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa. The Mwai Community Conservation Concession (Concession) is located adjacent to the Futi Corridor portion of the Maputo National Park on the western bank.
